Scouting

St. Mark's United Church sponsors Beavers (ages 5 to 7), Cubs (ages 8 to 10), Scouts (ages 11-14) and Ventures (ages 15-17).  We are an organization under Scouts Canada that is operating within the Wabanaki Area of the New Brunswick Council. Our group has been providing co-ed Scouting programs for over 40 years to all children and young adults in our community.

Our scouting year begins in mid-September,  right after school starts, and ends in late-May. The cost for scouting is $155, all of this money goes to Scouts Canada and the groups fund them selves with our annual popcorn campaign, Apple day, Scout trees and the occasional bottle drive.

Cubs (boys and girls ages 8-10)
Outdoor Adventure
Cubs meet Mondays from 6:30pm to 8:00pm

Wolf Cubs are based closely on the story "The Jungle Book" and is the second level of the Scouting Program. Challenging hikes, weekend camps, and an introduction to water activities like canoeing or kayaking are just a few of the fun outdoor adventures that Cubs enjoy.

With the Cub motto of "Do Your Best" front and center, Cubs are encouraged to try new and more challenging activities.  Learning important first aid skills, paddling a canoe for the first time, or leading a game at camp will open the door for Cubs to try other adventures they never thought possible.

Cubs also experience an exciting variety of other activities:  games and sports, model-building, music, story-telling and play-acting.  And like Beavers, Cubs enjoy their adventures with their friends.

Scouts (boys and girls ages 11-14)
Scouts meet Thursdays from 6:30pm to 8:30pm

Enjoy mountain biking, rock-climbing, canoeing, kayaking, extended hikes and lots of camping. These are just a few of the adventures you'll tackle in Scouting.
You'll enjoy your outdoor adventures as part of a team, working together with other young people to accomplish thrilling challenges.

Scouting gives every member a chance to be a leader.  It might involve running an activity, organizing a camp, or participating with other young people across your province or Canada in a youth forum.

Scouts meet in a group called a troop.  The troop is split into smaller groups called patrols.  There is one leader for every six Scouts.  Each Scout learns a promise, law and motto to help guide their personal development.
